about

Written in the winter of 2013, I had just moved out of my parents house for the first time and into a cheap apartment in Humboldt Park. The apartment was tiny and dirty, the wiring was shoddy and fuses would blow constantly. The biggest problem was the draft. There were cracks in the windows and doors thick enough to slide 2 quarters through and the heat would go off constantly with its broken intake fan roaring like a jet engine. To top it all off there was a streetlight right outside my bedroom window. One particular night during my insomnia, of all things, I was using a particular friend as a mental scapegoat, or maybe as a distraction from my own problems. I thought about this friend's selfishness and how they live above their means in a sort of day dream like state. Some people figure out whats important in their lives early on or a little late but at any rate they get there in time. I myself am such a reflective and nostalgic person, I infused my own experience and learning into a song themed from this certain friend's state of living. At the time I was very resentful of this person but as always I tried to take that emotion and swing it a different way with a overall "It's not too late to change Ebeneezer Scrooge" vibe. This song is for and about people who live in a fantasy world, imagining they can obtain all the cars, money and pleasure they desire. Its a message for them to come back down to earth before its too late and they miss the real beauty in the things all around us. Things like caring, giving, and selflessness.

lyrics

I think its morning
or maybe,
its just the street light,
either way,
I'm immobile,
I'm cold and sunken.
And of course I'm fucking thinking of you.

We've got the problem of living in fantasy
instead of enjoying the world
that's around you and me.
Look on and on and on before its too late.
Look on and on and don't miss a thing.

Can we take it back?
What matters is what you give.
Retrace our steps.
And not what you do or have.
Can we take it back,
And go down the right path?
Can we take it back?

I don't want shit that I don't need
a change in perspective has always worked for me
people give up in places that i refuse to fail
I'm not an activist but we're all human beings
lets step out of ourselves and take it back

What matters is what you give.
Retrace our steps.
And not what you do or have.
Can we take it back,
And go down the right path?
Can we take it back?

I think its morning
or maybe,
its just the street light,
either way,
I'm immobile,
I'm cold and sunken.
And of course I'm fucking thinking of you.

What started as two acquaintances just coming together to play a house show, quickly turned into four dudes making music in a crowded dank basement in Chicago. Otto Mann is honest, open hearted, quick to temper and occasionally belligerently gushy. We write music for the kids we used to be and the idiots we've now become. ... more
